Join us on Dartmoor for your Rock Climbing Instructor course.  An amazing variety of single pitch climbing, high-quality climbing walls and near-by outdoor climbing make this the perfect place to learn how to become an instructor. 

 

Training - Over three days we will explore the full syllabus of the Rock Climbing Instructor Scheme using great venues, teaching, discussions and practice to ensure you have every opportunity to take as much from the course as possible.  You can expect plenty of hands on guided learning which builds on your previous experience and adds to your toolbox of skills, knowledge and abilities; setting you up perfectly for the next stage of the scheme.   Come prepared to take notes, video and/or photos in all weathers to ensure you get the best from the course.

Assessment - This Course assesses candidates in line with the Rock Climbing Instructor syllabus.  Candidates must have attended a training course or been granted exemption.  Candidates should ensure they have recorded their climbing and supervision experience on DLOG including the minimum prerequisites as laid out in the scheme handbook.  We always aim to provide a constructive and relaxed assessment environment which allows you to perform to your best; including plenty of practical tasks and scenarios, questioning and a home research paper.  

On booking you will be sent full pre-course information including joining instructions and useful preparatory reading material.

Further Information:

To get started on the Rock Climbing Instructor qualification you need to meet the following prerequisites:

  • You must be at least 18 years old.

  • You should be an experienced indoor and outdoor rock climber.

  • You should have a genuine interest in climbing and the supervision of groups.

Before your training course you must have logged the following experience:​

  • 15 led routes which must be graded rock climbs with traditional protection.

  • 15 led routes at a climbing wall.

  • 5 led routes which must be outdoor bolt protected sport climbs.
