BRONZE NAVIGATION AWARD
Start your Navigation Journey with a firm foundation of skills and knowledge.
Two days packed with opportunities to grow your skills and confidence in the basics of navigation. One of our experienced and knowledgeable team will guide you through the syllabus which includes reading the ground, reading maps and relating them to the ground, keeping track of where you are and what to do in an emergency.
SILVER NAVIGATION AWARD
Develop your navigation skills with the skills to leave paths and tracks behind and head for the hills.
On this intermediate two day skills course you will learn the skills to explore remote and untouched wilderness. Reading the ground and map in more detail as well as using a compass to maintain direction across featureless terrain are just a few of the skills you will learn and develop.
HILL SKILLS
The Perfect introduction to the hills for novice hill walkers.
Two days of practical skills and knowledge that will give you the confidence to get out into the hills safely and competently. The course covers; planning and organising your walk; what gear to take and wear; basic navigation and route finding; walking and navigation skills; what to do in an emergency. Perfect for individuals, youth groups, schools and aspiring Lowland Leaders.
MOUNTAIN SKILLS
The Perfect introduction to the mountains for novices.
Two days of practical skills and knowledge that will give you the confidence to get out into the mountains safely and competently. The course covers; planning and organising your walk; what gear to take and wear; basic navigation and route finding; walking and navigation skills; what to do in an emergency. Perfect for individuals, youth groups and schools.
ROCK SKILLS
INTRODUCTION
Basic outdoor climbing skills to get you off the ground
A one day course which covers basic climbing skills for those aged 12+ with little or no previous experience. You will learn: how to choose and fit equipment; basic movement technique; to keep other climbers safe with and without a rope; an ecological approach to outdoor climbing including history and ethics.
On completion of the course you will receive a certificate from Mountain Training.
ROCK SKILLS
INTERMEDIATE
Develop your skills and become a more independent climber
This 2 day course builds on the introduction course s for those aged 13+ with some previous experience. You will learn: To climb better; develop your belaying skills, select anchors and set up basic climbs; second a lead climber.
On completion of the course you will receive a certificate from Mountain Training.
ROCK SKILLS
LEARN TO LEAD TRAD CLIMBING
Introducing the skills to become an independent trad climber
A 2 day introduction to the skills required to lead climbs on traditional (placed) gear for those aged 14+ with significant previous climbing experience. You will learn: To choose and climb routes suited to your ability; select and place gear for runners and build belays; safely belay and hold falls for a leader.
On completion of the course you will receive a certificate from Mountain Training.
ROCK SKILLS
LEARN TO LEAD SPORT CLIMBING
Introducing the skills to become an independent sport climber
A 2 day introduction to the skills required to lead climbs on bolted routes for those aged 14+ with significant previous climbing experience. You will learn: To choose and climb routes suited to your ability; check and clip bolts; safely thread lower-offs; safely belay and hold falls for a leader.
On completion of the course you will receive a certificate from Mountain Training.
PROBLEM AVOIDANCE AND SOLVING
Tricks and tips for avoiding and getting out of trouble!
Often run as a full or half day, or evening, recommended for established lead climbers. The workshop examines the main routes to problems and how to avoid them as well as what to do if you cant. the flexible syllabus can include: useful principles of incident management; tying off a belay plate; escaping the system; lowering and abseiling with a casualty; counter-balance abseils

This one day course covers all the essentials you need to safely explore this adventurous environment; for those with previous leading or significant seconding experience. subjects include: weather tides and planning; personal abseiling; route finding and movement around the crag; emergency procedures.
