The perfect navigation course to get you started - Our two day introductory course is ideal for anyone who wants to learn the fundamentals of great navigation and safe, independent hill walking.
On our Dartmoor based courses you will learn the skills to safely explore some awe-inspiring scenery, discovering trails and finding unique historic sites that make this landscape so interesting and varied. The course is carefully structured to make learning easy and fun, with plenty of time to practice

AWARD STRUCTURE AND COURSES
2018 Training Courses
The 2 day course will mostly take place practically with short walks used as the basis for learning. We will introduce and develop a range of basic navigation skills with plenty of time to practice and test yourself, all with the support of one of our experienced professional tutors.
The syllabus includes:
Selecting and reading maps
Recognising features on the map and on the ground
Measuring distances on the map and ground
Techniques to stay on track
Avoiding and correcting navigation errors
Staying safe in the hills
On successful completion of the course you will gain a certificate to record your achievement of reaching the bronze national navigation standard.
