What you need to know
Your hill walking experience will meet at Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre, Tavistock Rd, Princetown, Yelverton PL20 6QF. There is a car park at the rear of the visitor centre which is well signed. There is a small charge for parking - currently a few pounds for the day. There are shops, cafes and public toilets all within a short walk.
You will need to arrive by 1000 to meet your instructor. If you are running late give us a call so we know not to leave without you!
What you need to bring
You will need to bring a few essentials to keep you safe and happy during your adventure. Other items will enhance your adventure but are optional. Check out our guides to various kit items if you aren't too sure or contact us for advice.
At the start of the adventure we will likely have a check of your kit just to make sure its going to keep you safe and happy. We will provide all specialist and safety equipment
After meeting your instructor, quick introductions to your fellow walkers and a check of gear you'll get involved in making your plan for the day. With guidance from your instructor you will be able to choose from paths, tracks, breaking out onto the open moor, exploring tors, river valleys, forests and even some of the ancient quarries and bronze age settlements hidden among this unique landscape.
Over the course of the day you can expect to cover a variety of terrain including rough moorland, rock littered slopes and possibly the famous Dartmoor bog. On a clear day you can experience some of the vistas and locations made famous by the likes of Steven Spielberg and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
At the end of the day you can sooth tired limbs in a historic Dartmoor Inn with a warm hot chocolate or a local ale if you prefer! Wherever you end up; we're confident it'll be with a smile on your face!
